Tufts vs. Emory

Help help help. I know both of these schools will provide me with an incredible education, however now I need advice on some of my more "shallow" criteria for my college experience:

Can someone please comment on all of these criteria for each school:

-reputation (which is most impressive?)
-sports scene
-party scene
-attractiveness of student body
-beauty of campus

Please help! thank you!

I can’t speak for Emory, but here is Tufts:

Reputation–stellar; especially if you are looking to be in the northeast. Graduate Schools and employers definitely regard the school highly (that is, people are more attune to Tufts in places like NYC, Boston, D.C., etc.).

Sports Scene–Tufts doesn’t have amazing sports (it’s DIII). Most of the colleges in Boston don’t have amazing sports (maybe BC). But it’s Boston–where college lacks, professional sports teams make up: Bruins, Patriots, Red Socks, Celtics. All are very successful sport franchises.

Party Scene–people study hard during the week but let go during the weekends. Tufts has awesome events like Spring Fling (an annual concert held at Tufts–this year, Guster, Lupe Fiasco, and White Panda are coming). Greek life exists, but it doesn’t dominate. For those who want to party, they can easily find it, and for those who don’t, they can easily avoid it. Plus, it’s Boston–you have countless other universities at your doorstep.

Attractiveness of Student Body–depends who you talk with. Some say there aren’t many, but others say that has improved massively lately. Though, on the other hand, Tufts isn’t any different from schools like Duke or Harvard in this regard (both schools, ironically, have the same idea that their student bodies aren’t attractive and people have to lower their standards–I feel this is pretty common at most universities). But seeing how you live in the Boston area, you have an entire community of young people (so many colleges = so many different kinds of people). Personally, I don’t see attractiveness as any different from other schools, but that’s just me.

Beauty of Campus: Gorgeous. You are in a hill, but you can see the Boston skyline from the library rooftop. You can see students studying outside in the grass, etc. The fall leaves are brilliant and the spring flowers are stellar. So it’s nice. Winter gets cold, but it’s honestly not horrible.

Tufts and Emory were two of my top choices. The reasons I chose Tufts over Emory were countless, including some of the things you said were most important to you.

for reputation: Tufts is much stronger north of DC and Emory is much stronger south of Richmond. Tufts is also a lot stronger on the west coast, and I think it’s more or less a toss-up in the midwest. Not sure where you’re trying to live after graduation, but if it’s anywhere outside the south, I’d recommend Tufts.

Both campuses are beautiful. Tufts is more compact and has a diversity of architecture. Emory has a really nice Spanish theme to campus. They’re both really aesthetically pleasing, so this wasn’t a huge determinant in my decision.

the party scene is definitely greeker at Emory and more focused on house parties at Tufts. There are still a lot of fraternity parties here, and it will play a fairly big role in your social life freshman year, but there’s so much more going on on Saturday nights than fraternity parties and bars at Tufts - very different from Emory.

I visited both and also chose Tufts…

It is too Tuft to decide lol!
