Does Emory weigh it the same as other parts of the SAT or does it use it as a subject test or possibly ignore it all together?

I was told by someone at the Office of Admissions that Emory absolutely DOES NOT consider the SAT (or ACT) writing section.

awesome, thanks for the help

You never know, its better if you score at least a 700 on the writing for Emory. If the see a 500 on your writing score, they might reconsider accepting you. You should also try for a 1500/1600 on critical reading and math. You need at least a 2200/2400 to have a good chance at Emory just based on Sat Scores.

^Not true at all

690 CR is the middle 50%
715 Math is the middle 50%
1400 those two sections is the middle 50%

interesting, college board has it higher but I guess Emory knows Emory best

yah, but you have to understand that the average includes, URMs, athletes, and legacys…Urms/athletes/legacys can get in with lower scores. I had a 1500/1600, and a 2200/2400 and I was waitlisted…

If you got a 2200, you didn’t get waitlisted cause of your SATS

lulz i didnt make bottom 25% for SAT and got in, no im not URM

^^^ yah but are you a legacy or an athlete?

I got waitlisted because there were probably 30 other applicants with 2200s who applied to Emory(since its a great school) they can’t take everyone…I have no hooks, I have no relatives that have gone to Emory, I wasn’t recrutied for sports, I am not a urm…

collelges i’ve already told you.
your SAT scores didn’t get you waitlisted.
i’m asian, 3.5 UW, 2240, math league, lax, and cello were my only extracurriculars.
as you can see, i’m not special.

i still got in

On their website, in most of the cases, they state /1600 score, so I am guessing writing doesn’t matter that much. But yea, if you get, say, 1500/1600 and a 390 in writing, I think that would cause some concern.

im an athlete but not in college, and no i wasnt a legacy. Emory can pick and choose their smart kids because they get a plethora of them applying, so instead of filling their roster with kids with only high grades, they also look for kids who can make the campus vibrant and bring something else. I think thats where i fell in. im not dumb, i have a high GPA and have done well on APs, its just not all about APs.

Afitscher, dude, why are you lying hahahaa…you are a legacy…haha.

"my sister also went there, and i have visited and toured the campus and departments several times…Im from NY "…

^^^hahaa, “I am not a legacy”, and you did ED II…

I only remember this because you would go on everyone’s chance threads back in november and write one line, and then give a link to your chance thread…hahaa…The reason I am laughing is…why are you lying AFTER you have gotten into a good school like Emory…

Whatever the point isn’t whose lying and who got into Emory and who didn’t…I was just trying to provide the OP with the best advice…Obvisouly for most applicants its a lot harder to get in if you had a 500 on the writing…but to MAKE THE OP’S CHANCES A LOT BETTER, WOULDN’T IT HELP IF THE OP AIMED FOR A SCORE THAT WAS HIGHER than 75 PERCENT of EMORY’S STUDENT BODY?

(a good score can NEVER HURTS…IT ONLY HELPS…)

step sister though, they actually called my house and asked that…said they would give it the “appropriate weight”

while W may not be a factor in admissions (really have no idea), adcoms still see it sitting there and realize that any test score from someone that they accept will be part of thier USNews ranking/reporting; thus it will never be totally ignored. It is always better to be above the tests means if you can…

Emory’s common data set reports a W score %'s of 650-740, which is almost identical to the CR: 640-740.
