Hey guys!!! I am a rising junior from UCSB, majoring biology. My gpa is about 3.57 with 1410 SAT. My gpa is definitely lower than all of you guys. I think my essays are pretty good and have several great research experiences in UCSB. I applied Emory as a high school student (EDII) I also apply to USC UCLA AND UCB. I really hope to get into Emory!!!
Hope everyone can get into Emory!!!
no, I have taken intro to business microeconomics and macroeconomics. If I am accepted I plan to take all my business courses at Emory
No they didn’t send out to everyone. Some of my friends didn’t get emails
Really? I though it’s everyone
Does anyone know the acceptance rate for the business school? Last year was 28% for all transfer students, right?
Business school acceptance rate was 86% last year.
86%? I can’t imagine that lol
Even 28% sounds pretty high to be honest. But definitely more realistic than 86%.
Do you guys think that I have a shot at Emory (business), despite already having 60 credits? I am aware that I will need to take 3 years worth of classes, which I am okay with; however, I am worried that admissions might not like that.
You can’t transfer to the business school. The 86% rate is from Emory College and Oxford College. You have to complete 30 credit hours at Emory or Oxford to be admitted to the Goizueta Business School. However, once you are admitted to Emory, they don’t make it hard to gain admission to GBS. If you have 60 credit hours, it’s possible you could earn a masters at Emory College in addition to a business degree from GBS since you would graduate with 150 hours.
Yeah right. But I’d have guaranteed transfer into the business school right?
86% chance is not a guarantee, but a 3.0 in Emory College will do it.
wow, can’t believe I missed that. That’s lame. How do you know it’s 86% for the business school?
P.S. for transfer students its about 25% acceptance rate.

How do I know? The director of admissions at GBS is saying that is the number.
@Gavinstener and @Vincent1997 : That number @ljberkow got from the director of admissions is sensible for the overall GBS admit rate. No one can know about transfers specifically to GBS as there are so few that they likely get treated on an individual basis. To get into GBS from ECAS, you pretty much need to get involved and not “mess up” too much academically. They aren’t going to have a super admit rate knowing that students come to Emory banking on going to GBS and only GBS. If it became hyper competitive, the interest would deteriorate because of the risk incurred from going to a school where you find out after about 2 years that a major path of interest is likely to be shut off. The school has high ratings for academic quality, MBA placement, salary, etc…it isn’t going to add much prestige and certainly will not add quality by trying to look prestigious by attracting way more applicants than it can fit and rejecting most of them (too have that many applicants to have a 28% admit rate to GBS in the first place would suggest that Emory’s incoming classes are super homogeneous and biased towards business. Even if one adjusts for Oxford, 20 something % would be absurd.
Let us say I add Oxfords 450 or so students continuing and this gets Emory to 1800 undergrads that could perhaps apply for GBS. They admit 411 at 86% means like 470 applied and this 26% of the 1800, for this number to yield an admit rate of say 25%, you would need almost 1700/1800 eligible (only counting those who spent Oxford and ECAS) students, which is like over 90% of the student body applying to GBS. That wouldn’t make sense at all. Emory is very pre-professional so 26% is a large, but reasonable number of students interested in GBS, and then given capacity at GBS, admit rate of 86% makes sense.
Since transfer students have to wait a year to apply to GBS, there probably isn’t a statistic what their percentages are getting into GBS. Once you are in Emory College, I would assume the chances are similar to other undergrads who are not transfers. GBS tries very hard to accommodate all applicants who meet the requirements. You are only competing with yourself and not for a finite number of spots. The thinking is that if you do well enough to be admitted to Emory, then the same should be true for GBS.
Okay good to know. Currently, I have been accepted by UNC-Chapel Hill and I have to internally transfer as well, but they only have a 50% acceptance rate. I wish they’d make it a little more streamlined for transfers, just like UVA, USC or UMich does.
50% is actually pretty high for some of these schools. More and more are moving to direct admission for freshmen and then making it very difficult for internal transfer from a different major. I know Kelley (IU) is like that and so is Wisconsin. If you don’t get into those programs from HS, it gets much tougher.
I see where you are coming from on the 50% UNC-Chapel Hill decision with the 50% rate. Is it even tougher for those who transfer from another college? It is still a great university though and a very nice option to have in your back pocket right now. However, if you have heart set on a BBA and also are admitted to Emory as a transfer, your path is a lot clearer.
@ljberkow I don’t really know, if they make it harder for external transfers. Of course it’s a great University, but at this point I rather do three years knowing that I get into business than hoping for good luck. I will try to do my own research on Emory, but as of right now, I’d probably prefer Emory over UNC. Mainly due to the high acceptance rate of the business school.
