I am applying ED to emory university, and I don’t want to be bound my the agreement to Oxford college. If I check the box to be considered for Oxford, and I gain admissions there instead of emory, will I be bound.
If I don’t check the box will I not be considered for Oxford, and is it possible to gain admissions to both oxford and emory
If you check the box then you will be considered for admission for both Emory and oxford. If you get accepted to both colleges, then you get to choose which campus you would like to enroll in. But if you only get accepted to one college then you have to go there.
And yes it is very possible to get accepted to both, I did last December and ultimately chose the Atlanta campus and I love it here so far!
Thank you so much for your response! will checking Oxford hurt, help, or not correlate with my chances at emory Atlanta?
Checking Oxford won’t hurt your chances of getting into the main campus in Atlanta. They review your application for the schools separately.
If you apply ED to Emory and don’t check the box for Oxford, you cannot be considered for Oxford, even for regular decision. If you check the box for BOTH and only are admitted to Oxford, you would be bound by your early decision agreement. Checking Oxford will not impact your chances for Emory College one way or the other.
@Sarahsmither
Yes, you will be bound. Don’t do it if you don’t want to go there. However, if you don’t get into Emory College ED. You can apply to Oxford Rd.
I don’t believe you can apply ED to Emory and RD or ED2 to Oxford. @Sarahsmither you may want to contact admissions and ask.

Applying to Emory ED but NOT Oxford does not preclude later applying to Oxford RD (in the event @Sarahsmither is not admitted ED to Emory). This is worth asking admissions about.
However, it’s possible to apply to both Emory and Oxford ED but @Sarahsmither would be obligated to attend Oxford if admitted to Oxford ED and rejected from Emory ED.
Now, here’s a question that’s not been answered: what if @Sarahsmither is admitted to Oxford ED and deferred (not rejected) from Emory ED. Is she allowed to stay on Emory’s RD list and, if later accepted to Emory RD, to attend Emory RD instead?
"Students can apply Early Decision to Oxford College, Emory College or both. If you are accepted to both Oxford College and Emory College Early Decision, you have until the deposit date to choose which campus to attend.
If you apply Early Decision to both Oxford College and Emory College, and you are admitted Early Decision to only one of the campuses, you will need to pay your admission deposit to that school."

The above is from the Emory Admissions website.
So, for @Sarahsmither , she wants to apply ED to Emory College and doesn’t want to be bound to Oxford if she would be denied at Emory and accepted to Oxford. Because you don’t want to be bound to attending Oxford, you should NOT check both boxes.
@BiffBrown is saying you could apply ED to Emory College and do a separate RD application to Oxford.
Hey guys, so I’m not too sure about the ED thing, but could someone please tell me the pros and cons of both atlanta and oxford campuses? Really confused rn tbh
Here’s how Emory describes the differences:

The bottom line is that they are different. What might be a pro to one student, might be a con to another. It depends on what you are looking for and your personality. I went to Emory decades ago. I grew up on the outskirts of a city, and quite honestly, would have gone stir crazy at any school in a remote location (with the possible exception of a large state flagship in a great college town). However, I could see how some would prefer a more tight knit campus where everything is self contained and where you deal with faculty on a more personal level. It’s about fit.
@dersitzpinkler : You need to think about academics too. Oxford will be more tight-nit and liberal arts focused. Since classes are smaller in those first two years, they are far more likely to be more graded workload intensive, whereas ECAS may assign less graded work and rely on exams to grade students (most Emory students will experience more workload intensive courses for their areas of interest by sophomore or junior year, whereas Oxford is more likely to “put it on you” immediately). In addition, you may need to think of potential major. If you are pre-dual degree/engineering, pre-business, or considering something like the NBB or QTM major which are very heavy on requirements that are offered more frequently and in more fullness on main campus, then I would strongly consider main campus over Oxford. If you have AP credit and want to accelerate to higher level courses in your area, they will go further on main with the more robust course offerings. I think Oxford is great if you want very strong introductory exposure in majors that are not too coursework heavy/interdisciplinary. Some in the latter majors find themselves playing catch up.
Arguably, if you start off at the intermediate levels of math and physics, Oxford may be a better start (guaranteed better teaching geared towards someone who really has a strong preparation in said areas and wants to enhance it further) but for other departments…nah. They are much more restrictive with acceleration and access to intermediates in upper divisions in those.
