Which one? I haven't gotten Emory's finaid package yet...but UGA is basically free. (I got into Emory off the wait list)

Emory's finaid program is very generous...read up on the Emory Advantage program on their website. It depends on what you want out of your education. Emory is a far better college than UGA, even when considering an honors program. You'll only take a few honors courses at UGA, then take regular classes with the rest of the student body. Meanwhile, your entire Emory career is full of challenging courses. Having taken classes at both Emory and a Ga state school, I can tell you there's no comparison between the two. Unless you want to go into agricultural science, I think Emory's the best choice for you.

UGA does have better social options, though, not to mention a real athletics program if you're into that thing. Athens is arguably the best college town in the country.

i think that ull be fine either way. I visited UGA and walked by an honors course and ppl were discussing (it was like government or something), I sat in on a regular course at UGA, and everyone seemed to be sleeping...the honors courses seem really nice, but you only take like 2 each semester...ppl just didnt seem very motivated, I don't know if its always like that or just an off day. I sat in on an introductory class at Emory and everyone seemed so enthused and everyone was discussing and stuff. A regular UGA class: not much discussion, huge, ppl might be passed out. A regular Emory class: ppl seem engaged in the lesson, and smaller.
I think that it just depends on the environment, but either way you can't go wrong. UGA also told me I could transfer there after the first semester when I sent them a letter declining a scholarship, so if worse comes to worse, you can just transfer into UGA, although I don't know how hard it will be to transfer into Emory...but yeah, I think with both those choices, there is no clear cut winner. Either way, I think you'll win.
Sorry if that wasn't helpful, bot thats the way I thought about it when I had to make the same decision...

the honors program at uga is impressive. money and other resources are available to honors kids to the extent that it ALMOST is like attending a different college. but not quite.
if you were waitlisted at emory and got into UGA's honors program, then i'm thinking you test pretty well but did not earn the highest grades.
so the question is twofold: do you have the money for emory? and will you work hard at UGA even if the status quo isn't to kill yourself?

both schools offer cool things.
uga is in fun athens, its campus is pretty, and it has a social scene partially centered on great sports. if ur in the honors program, you are treated special and have study abroad and other possibilities for subsidies.

emory is a strongly supported school so that all students get some of the special treatment that only a select few get at UGA. the facilities are top notch--from the technologies to the building to the best profs to the student/prof ratio. almost all students are used to working to their potential and earning top marks. they'll be plenty of partying, but the majority of the students have their eye on the prize. emory's costs are high. and if you can't afford emory, then you would be foolish to forego free. and that seems to be the bottom line.
is emory a better academic institution?
yes.
can you get a lot out of any academic institution? yes
best of luck
