Was admitted to Emory and Washu. Cost of attendance is similar. I am hardworking and focused. I have always dreamt about going into medicine. I want to pursue a premed track. Major is undecided as it wont matter. Need you thoughts on premed. I am a bit confused. Given a good MCAT prep from my end, ECs, Internships efforts… which is better school for me.
- Where can I maintain a good GPA and focus more on MCAT prep. Hard work is not an issue. Hoping there is less grading on curve and student is able to maintain a high GPA. Sometimes even with hard work cause of competitive nature and academically strong student maybe one cant maintain a A/A+? Any idea on this ?
- Looking for good opportunity and not get weeded out. Which is bit of an easier school. Where I can work hard and get high GPA.
I know it all depends on the student. Will try and get good MCAT score, do all interneships and ECs. Which school will give me better chance so I am able to do all this without being too stressed out.Hoping for less cutthroat environment. I have no concerns with opportunities and academic quality of both schools. They are both amazing. I have no preference for location or weather either.
Just wanting a good fit for me. Less weed out , high GPA rest I will manage.
Premed at just about every college is difficult and competitive. The best way to do well is to go to a school where you feel there is the best fit and major in a subject in which you have interest. Both are fine schools with accomplished students and established programs.
Have you visited both schools? Which did you like best?
Neither school is going to be a cakewalk when it comes to premed. Emory ‘may’ be less of a weeder and less stressful than WashU. General Chemistry and Orgo are pretty infamous at WashU for weeding out people. That being said, the school is considered a collaborative environment.
WashU’s premed committee claims that there is an admissions boost from earning and undergraduate there and being premed. I don’t take much stock in this though.
Another factor is that med school will be expensive and Emory/WashU undergrad will not be cheap.
These appear to be mirror posts-but it’s worth repeating: there are no easy schools for premed.
@Hamurtle is it better to go to school with less wedding out chancesand get better chance of applying to a med school? Given I work hard and get a good MCAT score. Cost is same for me. I like both cities.
I am not looking for an easy school. Just want school where weed out is little less. Grade deflation is little less. Even if it increases by chance of getting into medical school by small percentage I want to try. Generally regardless of school name where should one go?
The reality is that nobody keeps these numbers, especially when comparing schools and looking for one that “weed(s) out is little less.” You’ll get plenty of opinions, but no schools keep numbers of the students they weed out. So as noted above, go to the school specific discussions; you’ll get plenty of opinions.
