Seeing that I am in this purgatory known as the waitlist, is there any way I can really just boost my chances of getting off of it? Emory’s still my first choice, so any advice would be appreciated.
Hello JSPHHAN. I have also been waitlisted since Feb (I applied ED II). Are you waitlisted by Emory College or Oxford College? Maybe, just if you want, you can kindly call them and ask what is the main reason they made such decision, and actually they will answer. If you have any new grades or awards, don’t hesitate to send them. Honestly, I am very nervous right now, because I am an international school student and have to apply Student Visa for study. I don’t really have enough time to wait. I have to make a decision very soon. Anyways, best of luck to you!
Emory wait list here,any news?
Do not call them. They don’t want calls and they certainly won’t give you the reason for their decision. Send them a carefully crafted “Letter of Enthusiasm” that doesn’t brag but makes clear your interest.
I saw uchicago has already accept wait list ,a few got accept now.
@Hoped123 : I wouldn’t let it bother you because some schools know they admitted a WAY off-target class. There is a lot of politics that goes into it at some schools, especially those really concerned about the perception of prestige. I suspect that some schools that way under-recruit do so to be able to report in various media that their admit rate feel to some record low number and then they can just pull from the waitlist afterwards. There are some schools that pull well over 100 (maybe 200 or 300) from the waitlist because of such admissions antics. Sometimes it is a nice trick that works on parents, counselors and prospective students as we love the look of ever increasing selectivity (as if it makes a large difference if one class had 9% accepted and another 8.5%. Some schools even go through motions of accepting less students each year even if applications decline slightly in order to be able to report the same ideally a lower admit rate than the last year). Often Emory is pretty on targer. Last year, only like 45 of those who accepted a wait list position were pulled off which suggests that Emory maybe only needed to fill maybe 20-30 spots (because they know not everyone will take offer) compared to the maybe 100-150 at some places.
Thank you for these information,I know the chance is so small for internation student.
