emory's campus and dorms

I've noticed how many people say that Emory has really nice facilities.
But I want to know more about how the campus looks in general, and how the dorms are. I guess regarding the dorms, i'm just interested in what college dorms are like.

all the pictures that i see of emory are the same. there are several of them I always see no matter which website I look for the pictures...

so if anyone is willing to tell me these stuff that'll be awesome :)

how visually appealing is the campus? i've noticed that it looks very modern compared to many other schools

how big is the campus? it's a little hard to visualize it with the number of acres they give you.

what's in a dorm? i'm not referring to any specific college dorm, but in general. what the "lounge" is for things like that.. i've always imagined a college dorm as just a building with floors of rooms, but from pictures of some other school dorm buildings it's apparently not like that...

thanks in advance (=

hey gashergina
i’m a freshman this year and i absolutely love the dorms here. i live in the complex, which is a res hall with three dorms connected in one. at complex we have two full kitchens (complete with stove, microwave, etc) available for student use, a mini gym, two common rooms with like couches and chairs and stuff, and two roof deck patios. i’m living in a double and it’s very spacious. there’s an entire wall of storage in my room which is just wonderful.
the campus is actually pretty traditional in my opinion. i think it’s beautiful and peaceful and very college-like with a big green quad and lots of tall trees. the best way to really know for yourself is to go tour the campus. to me the campus is the perfect size. it’s not huge compared to some other schools, but you certainly can’t stand in one spot and see it all. i’d really strongly advise you to come see it for yourself though, like i said earlier. i don’t think you can really get a proper perspective from a viewbook or website. good luck with your application :D

you can find more pictures on the Facebook group Emory C/O 2013

It really depends on your luck. I got into a Few single, which is really nice and relatively spacious, but the doubles in my very hall look like hell to live in.

The campus is not very big, but the hills are deceptively brutal. It’s just big enough for a bike to be useful.

I’m in Harris in a single. I don’t like the fact that I’m in a single because I wanted a roommate, but I’m almost never alone so it is okay to be honest. I love everything about Emory, I haven’t had a single bad experience here so far. I’ve been able to go to parties, go to clubs, and still study and get my work done. Emory is definitely work hard, party hard though. I’ve been here just coming up on three weeks this Saturday and I’ve noticed already there is a lot of partying on the weekends and actually some during the week as well. Frat parties, clubs with 18+ nights, house parties…there is always something to do. I’ve rarely been bored here.

The campus itself is beautiful, but I agree with Doryphorus about the hills. You will get some calves here, trust me.

The grass is always cut, decorated with flowers. The buildings are marble, everything is very clean, and the campus has a very regal look and feel to it. It’s always clean, and it’s obviously a green campus. On a grading scale? A-. Seriously, when you see it, that’s the grade that you would give. It, in my opinion, is the most attractive campus in the Atlanta area.

After getting lost so many times, you will eventually learn your way around. The campus isn’t that large. You can get from point A to point B in ten minutes at the most, walking normal speed. I can leave from my dorm ten minutes before a class and have arrive a minute or two early. Nothing is out of distance.

I stay in Turman, the newer dorms. You will need to complete an application to get into one of these dorms, but it is well worth it. There are five floors with males on one end and females on the other end. There is a bathroom on each end of the hall along with a private, unisex bathroom on each side, too. There are three lounges per floor, except the first floor which has only two. Also, one thing unique about the lounge on the third floor is that the fourth floor lounge is right above it. What I mean by this is that the fourth floor lounge is smaller. You can walk to the end of the lounge, look down, and see the people on the third floor doing whatever. Pretty neat.

Inside the room, you will get a bed, desk, a dresser, and a smaller dresser-thing–I can’t recall the specific name. There is also a sink inside the room, and a closet. The newer dorms closets have no dooors, but there is an indent in the wall. It looks pretty normal.
