Employers and Online Degrees

Hello, I am currently a Tech Support Agent and I am wanting to get my AS in Network Administration. But it’s an online degree through University of Phoenix, now I’ve looked at the CHEA and the university’s Accreditation is through a recognized source which is The Higher Learning Commission or Counsel. Now I am also a self taught computer programmer, working on A+ certification, Network+ and Linux certifications and I just graduated HS a year ago, been doing that stuff for about 6 years now.

Now I to have seen reports about rip offs, and scams involving UOP and I wonder if any of them are true. I’m more likely to believe CHEA and the BBB then I am someone who I have no background information on and they are just a disgruntled employee or thought that the university was going to let them have a free ride and they messed around didn’t get an education but still have to pay for it. Traditional campuses are the same way.

So my actual question(s) are:

 1. If any of yall are employers would you accept a online degree holder or would you look towards someone with traditional degrees? What if with the things I mentioned above if I was more suitable for it yet I still had that Online degree, would you think I was lazy or something and hire a person how while not may be better suited for it has a traditional diploma.

My adviser said since I’m going for Network Admin, I’d be able to log into the servers crash them etc bring them back up and everything I would do in a real world situation. Now I’ve been the Network Admin for my High School and a Local Nursing Home so I know whats needed to be done in situation like that. UOP is the first online program that offers something like that. I had originally thought about going to WGU, AIU, or ECPI and none of them offered ANYTHING remotely close to being able to do stuff like that.

Last, would I be thought as lazy since I done an online degree and not a traditional campus? I work 50 hours a week from home doing Tech Support I have 2 days a week off, which I would like to spend with friends and family now since I’m already on the computer 50 hours a week, I think online would be the way to go, so I wont have to drop hours at work, leave to goto campus then have to replace my hours and work the two days I already have off? Make sense?

Thanks for reading this, sorry its so long. Also I’m only 19 and Im just getting my AS to kind of get my foot in the door. I plan on eventually going on to getting my Bachelors and would like to pursue my Masters. But also, I can get the A+, Network+, and the Linux certification for about 300-500 USD a piece which is still less than UOPs tuition for year and be qualified to do Network Administration. I plan on getting Certifications to though. So wicne I would be qualified/certified to do the Network Administration with those certs I acquire would employers still like to hire people a degree?

I’d like to hear mainly from employers on this subject but UOP graduates or people who don’t think it is worth anything or whoever else wants to leave their thoughts please do. Thanks again and once again sorry for it being so long.
