Does anyone have any experience with their child involved in their University’s EMT/Rescue program? How was/is the experience, what is it like?
Not my child, but both my cousin and the daughter of a friend were on the EMT squads at college.
My cousin joined the EMT squad at George Washington, where the test included the ability to carry a bicycle up multiple flights of stairs (because they bike the campus and the dorms are high rise buildings). He loved the work and ended up interning and then being hired by the university, so he was able to earn an MBA (free or reduced cost - I don’t recall which - as a full time employee).
My friend’s daughter was on the EMT squad at Tulane, where she loved the perq of being able to watch football games from the sidelines (on days she was scheduled on the squad).
Both of these students initially entered college - and joined the squad - because they were considering medical school. Neither of them ended up becoming medical doctors, although the Tulane student did complete a masters there and is working as a scientist.

Colorado College Emergency Medical Services apparently hires CC students with EMT certifications.
My DD is an EMT on our town’s squad and hopes to join in college if they have one. There are a couple of schools that she applied to that have established programs. My older DDs both have friends on the squads and they relate that there are a lot of calls for too much alcohol. It’s definitely a way to join a community within a community.
