I posted this in Vanderbilt too, but has anyone out there applied to Vandy's ENGAGE program? Anyone know when we find out and what teh chances are of getting in? (somewhere I read they take only 10 a year?!)

Also waiting to hear about Miami's HPME. Any know what those chances are - is it pretty much automatic if you meet the honors criteria?
Thanks.

its different for each school..but for the onces i have talked to they arent automatic for example you can not meet the critera but still get into the program. i suggest you talk to the honors adminstion rep to see how their program works

nope, Miami HPME is definitely not automatic. I had a friend last year who I think had to go in twice for an interview, because they were having a really hard time deciding between candidates. Remember on the application, it says that they'll accept UP to 20 candidates each year...so there are plenty of applicants who meet the criteria and don't get in.

If they "invite" you for an interview, do you know whether you pay your own way - flights, hotel, etc.? (Imagine paying to go down twice - and then not getting in!)

I applied to ENGAGE, and i was wondering about the chances there too... the form says 10 students "total" for the ENGAGE program, but it isn't clear if its 10 per graduate school or 10 among all 6 of them.

Also, I know that i have to pay my way to a bu interview.

im pretty sure its 10 per grad school, it seems like the med school is the most competetive one. there is also an early acceptance program at the end of soph year for people who dont get into ENGAGE

There are only ten students total. I am a semifinalist for the medical school, and the lady said there were eight candidates. I'm thinking that there are about two people accepted for med/law/biz, and only one for the others. Med school is pretty competitive, ranked 15th on usnews, but law is ranked 17th while business is only 33rd. For ENGAGE you have to pay your own way, but I was invited to stay on campus overnight if I wanted to. Other school such as Emory or Washington University in St. Louis pay for your expenses.

I got a call for the med interview too, but mine is during that honors scholarship weekend (CAS only, i think) where they are paying for me to come. It's sometime March 20-22.
Also, they were "surprised" by the large number of applicants to the med program so they dont know how many they are going to accept yet.

You might have applied to the College of Engineering or something other than the College of Arts and Sciences. The weekend is only for finalists of the CAS honors scholarship (like 50 people).

Also, I just found out yesterday (Sunday) evening so I wouldnt say you are out of the running just yet...
