I just discovered in the span of a few days that both the Michigan State University's Medical Scholars program and the Vanderbilt ENGAGE program have both been discontinued. In the first case, it says so on the MSU website, and in the ENGAGE's case, that was the reply I got from the Vandy admissions office when I asked about the ENGAGE essay questions. :<

Yeah, I know. I wasn't really planning on applying to MSU, but I wanted to see what their application looked like, and the ENGAGE program was impossible to get into while it was around. I was just like, "whoa, all these bacc/md programs got discontinued!" They really end these things pretty quick when they want to.

Its a big hassle to oversee programs like these - if you can imagine. A lot of effort. Plus the number & likely the caliber of regular applicants to med schools are increasing & improving. So who needs it.

This has been the trend for awhile. Many programs are either cancelled or being severely curtailed (HPME, etc.). There's no reasons to be taking high-schoolers than there are so many good college applicants.
