Hello, I was wondering how major-emphasized (courses that emphasize toward a certain major) engineering major course lists are at UF. In particular, I am asking for the majors for BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER ENGINEERING (hardware emphasis) and BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. Do the courses of these majors for said degrees have a lot of major-specific classes?

I am asking this because I need a good reason for them to change my term of entry from Spring '10 to Fall '09. It is that if I choose to go in the Spring, UF recommended that I take no more than 15 credits at a local colege or CC so that i pretty much won't be behind when I go in the Spring (if i go in the Spring that is.....). So if the courses in the first semester are really major-specific,it may be a good reason to put as to why I am requesting a change-of-term request.

By the way here are the links o the two engineer majors i was talking about:

ECE-UF BSCEN Beginning 2006

and

ECE-UF BSEE Curriculum Beginning 2006

thanks again

You can try looking at the recommended semester plans here:

I didn't take any electrical engineering classes until my 3rd semester and I graduated a year early. I don't think you will have a convincing argument (or much to worry about). However, it is advisable to take (assuming you have no AP credit) calc I or II, Chem I, Physics with calculus I, etc so that when you get there in the Spring you can take the second components and stay on track. Engineering is a 4.5 year degree so I'd advise taking as many classes at an easy college as possible.

^ I agree with everything gthopeful said. It's really going to come down to how many pre-req classes you will AP out of. You could take any of these classes during the fall at a community college just to get them out of the way (make sure UF will take the credits first):

Humanities (GE-H) 6
Social/Behavioral Sciences (GE-S) 6
Humanities or Social Science 3
International Diversity (GE-I) 0-6

I have the following DE and AP

MarcoEcon (AP)
MicroEcon (AP DE)
US Govt (DE AP)
PreCalc (DE)
US foreign policy (DE)
Computer apps (DE)
US History (DE)

I'm not sure you have much of an arguement. My d is an engineering major and honestly, she could have taken most of the courses she took her first year at a CC. Chem, the physics sequence and calc sequence are all offered by our local CC. She actually took calc 3 at our local CC last summer, just because she was having a hard time fitting it into her schedule in the fall. She is in her 4th semester and brought 12 AP credits in with her, but even with that, she ended up talking many of her gen ed requirements as well her first year.

I don't think they would tell you to go to your CC for a semester if there wasn't anything for you to take.

Well the other thing is that the quality of education between a local CC like MDC and UF are different in my opinion. I dont think taking calc, physics, and chem at a local CC would put me "up to par" with what the same courses would give me at UF.
