<p>My son applied regular decision; is it possible he will hear earlier than 1/31/15. he submitted his application on 10/26/14. his gpa is 4.19, SAT super score over 2010. What are his chances?</p>

<p>You are applying to the university as a whole and hopefully will be admitted to the whole university regardless of your intended major. You can be preengineering freshman year but will need to meet criteria for the mech eng. Read the engineering part of the UW website for college gpa et al needed for various engineering majors et al. The significance is that you can change your major at any time, your admission is not dependent on your application stated major, if any. Stating a major now helps for SOAR advising.</p>
