If my son can only choose one, which one is best and why?

ENG1002 Introduction to Engineering

Thanks!

D took ENG1002 her first semester. For her it was quite helpful in that she was debating “what type” of engineering. She came in as MechE, as her dad’s that, and suggested it was a good, all around fit. However, she wasn’t sure … so she took 1002. Anyway, the class examines all the disciplines of engineering that are offered at UF. The students rotate thru all these disciplines and are given tours, lectures, seminars, Q & A about each discipline. They have one free week, I believe, because of the way it turns out in the semester, and they don’t always meet for the full time, in fact, many times they don’t. After taking this she changed her major to ChemE, as she realized mechE was not for her. So, if you don’t know for sure which engineering discipline you’re going to major in … I would suggest taking this. Good luck!

I am currently in EGN1002. It is an excellent class. I am an ISE major but considering a move to Materials Science & Engineering. Take it!! Also, it is great for networking with UF faculty… and a smooth and easy introduction.

Thank you so much for that information! Anyone else have any information on the EML2920 class?

My S took EML2920 during Fall semester last year and found it easy and helpful. He was certain of his major (Mech/Aero Eng.), so did not feel the need for a class to explore other areas of Engineering. However, I have heard the EGN1002 is really good and I kind of wish he would have taken that class just to explore some other engineering major options.

eml2920 is focuses on just mechanical/aero while egn1002 goes through each department(around 10) and a professor or adviser will give the students information on that particular major.

Thanks everyone! Neither of those classes were available at Preview, and he is keeping an eye on a opening in drop/add. Keeping fingers crossed!

Tell your son to keep trying ISIS…every day, several times a day at different times to find a spot in the class he wants…my S has had really good luck getting classes he initially couldn’t get into…he has always been able to pick them up at a later time thru sheer perserverance online. Sometimes, I would get his log on info and try to find the class when I was online too…
