Engineering/Departmental Scholarship

Anyone received one yet? From last year's threads, it looks like those were sent out before the OAFA scholarships, but I haven't seen anyone mention getting one this year. I hope they're not a thing of the past!

My D got 2k per year. Heard today

Congrats! Let’s hope we all get good news soon :)

I hope we can get one of these. I wondered if applying in November didn’t really help since we were a bit on the late side.

It seems the earlier you apply the better your chances. I don’t know if there is a quota on the number of full tuition scholarships per state (I would not be surprised if there is) so once they give out that number then the later applications would get the lesser amounts.

The SSOE scholarships are also a bit different in that some of them are based on less number-based factors (i.e. OOS vs IS, major considering, gender, ethnicity, etc.) since most of the SSOE scholarships seem to be alumni based, they almost get to hand pick the winners themselves (that’s kind of how it worked with the one that I had).

aaah thats either a good thing or bad thing. Sigh can only hope for the best.

If it’s done how mine was, the faculty in charge of scholarships will recommend winners to the alumni who will then yea/nay their choices. This could also explain why they take longer, as they have to pick winners, contact the alumni, and hear back in the affirmative before they can let the recipients know.

If anyone is still wondering, I got 2k/year as well in the mail today.

Congrats, Uni! Glad to hear that there’s still hope!

Yay still hope. We only got a $12k so it cheaper but still a bit pricey. Debating on options now.

Santookie, is the $12K from Engineering? I was just wondering because I have never heard of them giving that much before.

I had $12k/year when I started. $10k/year from UHC and $2k/year from SSOE. I had friends who were on full tuition from SSOE (up to about $27k/year) from freshman year onwards. There are big $ scholarships to be awarded, but they are much much fewer in number. (In fact, at the end of every year, they host a big banquet with all the full tuition winners and the alumni who pay their tuition and, while a “big” affair, the number of students is pretty small compared to the number of total students)

Dd just got a 4k/yr engineering scholarship in the mail fwiw. Her orig app was in Sept with UHC scholarship in Nov. for anyone looking to have clues on the timing of these.

Chances are someone else originally had it, but then turned down the offer recently, so SSOE picked another winner (your D) and gave it to her instead. This happens a lot.
