I have taken the GRE and got a 155 and 153 in the qualitative and quantitative sections, respectively. Are these low for an engineering Master’s program? I don’t plan on entering a top tier school but rather a school like the state schools of New Mexico and Texas.

The state schools in Texas, particular UT and TAMU, are both generally considered top tier schools.

155 is pretty decent to good for engineers on the verbal section, and most reviewers aren’t going to care that much anyway. 153 on the quantitative portion for math is pretty bad compared to the average engineer. That’s the one that is going to hurt you potentially.

If you have research experience, that and the strong reference letters it hopefully provides you may be able to offset that.
