I applied for Engineering Honors in late October, but I haven't received anything on whether I made it in or not. Does it usually take this long for them to make a decision?

My DS got his acceptance about a month ago.

oh, then I guess they must be seriously debating over mine. haha that can't be a good thing.

henryj- I'm in the same boat as you. I applied in mid-October and have yet to hear anything from engineering honors even though I've heard back - positively :) - from both Plan II and Liberal Arts Honors...hmm, I guess they're debating mine too.

i sent mine in Nov and im still waiting also....just curious, what are you guys' stats?

GPA: 4.26/4 weighted, ~3.7/4 unweighted
Course Load: All AP's/DC's junior and senior year w/ exception of spanish 3 preAP and got a 4 in Calculus AB
Rank: 6/595
SAT: 540 CR, 690 W, 740 M, 1970 total
SAT IIs: Math 2 - 790

ECs: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science NHS
Work: 12 hr/week
Volunteering: 112 hrs at hospital + 20-30 hours for NHS

I got into Biomedical Engineering if that counts for anything =P. but I'm doubting I'll get in cause of my SAT's but regardless, I want to get an answer soon.

I am in the same boat as you guys. GPA: Unweighted is 95.33 SAT Math - 730 Writing - 640, Critical Reading - 640, Class Rank 20/498 Lot of extracurricular stuff including NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, and UIL Math. Do you guys think it is worth it if you get in? What are the advantages of honors vs. regular (non honors)? Which do you think would it be easier to get a higher GPA in?

well being in honors means harder classes but also more one-on-one attention. In my opinion, a higher gpa is easier in regular classes but when you apply for a job, "graduating with honors" looks pretty good on your resume. But with a 3.5 gpa in UT, you can still be invited to join the honors program if you don't make it freshman year.

Yeah but I think a higher GPA matters more to employers than being in Honors. For example, a 3.7 in non-honors is better in my opinion than a 3.3 in Honors. What do you think? Either way, I think a higher GPA matters more to employers than being in Honors.

I think the idea is to accept you in the honors program only if you show that you can be as successful there (in terms of getting a high GPA) as in the regular program, while at the same time enjoy all the benefits and privileges the honors program has to offer. Also, keep in mind that not all courses you take as an honors student are honors courses. In fact, most of the upper-division courses are regular courses.

don't worry. i haven't received a decision either, and I completed my application back in late August...

from the people i talk to, it seems like a lot of people still haven't heard back. i think most people know by mid-March.

Has anyone else not heard yet?

i got mine last wednesday (March 4th) but was rejected. my rank and gpa was pretty good but my sat's were low

Got my rejection letter last Saturday :( wasn't surprised though lol.

I'm sorry I Hope UT. at least during our freshman year, we can see how well we can keep our gpa up and then decide whether we can handle Engineering honors. i'd rather get a good gpa first than being surprised if honors is too difficult and getting low grades.

I still haven't heard back but I doubt I'll get in because I have similar stats as I Hope UT.

yeah..what engineering are you guys doing? i'm doing EE...i went to the round-up and they had "A day in the life of an EE student" info session...seems interesting

I got accepted into ME, but I'm probably going to switch to ChE and do PreMed

i'm in biomed. haven't taken biology since eighth grade though so i might need some summer prepping

I was in the engineering honors program many, many years ago. Ack! My HS physics was horrible, so I really struggled in the physics classes. My very first exam at UT was in physics, and I made a 45!! Since my HS average was almost 99, that was kind of a shock. I liked the calculus classes, though - Dr. Guy was wonderful.

Good luck to all of you! Have fun at UT.
