I may or may not be attending UMich next fall, but I would like to know how UMich performs in these categories. Here are a few of my questions:

Does UMich do a good job providing internship opportunities for its engineering students?

What is the job placement rate for those same students?

It’s on you to find an internship, not the University.

They’ll have large career fairs, helpful career counselors, info sessions, email about some opportunities, etc. but you have to still do the work and apply and follow up.

Your internship experience is probably the most important criteria when applying for a job, at least that is what I have gathered, so I would guess students with psst internships have a higher hob placement rate.

I forget where but there are some more detailed statistics about this stuff on Michigan engineering website

I’ll explore the website some more, but do you know any of the companies that participate in the career fair at UMich? I’ve heard that it is quite large.

A lot of internships sometimes require you to have prior internship experience, which is like a catch-22. Now, if you get involved in school with projects etc, you’ll probably be fine.

placement is quite good atleast in terms of internships this year. I know people with sub 3.0’s with pretty sweet gigs. I think almost all my domestic engineering friends got an internship with a big firm
The school itself does not set you with a job or whatev. Career fair is quite big, many companies.

Do the Fall engineering career fair. It’s amazing.

It’s two days in the third week of September and it helped me land my internship this summer. Even if you don’t really know what you want to work in, it’s great to go and see the format of the event and network with recruiters. I had a great conversation with a recruiter who ended up sending my resume directly to my current manager. She told me later that if I would’ve applied online blindly, I would not have gotten the position. And plus you get a whole bunch of free stuff there. I got like 3 water bottles, 2 sling bags, and 5 t-shirts.

Sounds great. Is it something for only UMich students, or could I go there as a visitor if I was free? I’d love to check it out if that’s allowed.
