Hello all,
I’m a ChemE major in his first year at UCLA. As I finish up this third quarter, I can’t help but to damn my persona that took hold these last three quarters. Many factors led to really poor performance on my side. Honestly, I put 0 effort into my time here so far.
I’m glad to say that one fateful night here has completely changed my outlook, and I’m ready to tackle my classes and obstacles that I’ll face in my time here.
But this night came a bit late in the quarter. Even if I were to obtain perfect scores on my finals (which would mean learning most of the coursework in a couple of weeks), the best conceivable grades I could get are C’s. The fact that I’m trying to join an organization that has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 doesn’t help either (currently have a measly 2.1–two C’s wouldn’t cut it).
What I’m asking is this: Should I go ham (try hard, for non-millennials) these upcoming weeks to try to receive a C in these classes OR should I fail these classes on purpose to retake them over the summer?
I’m not sure how detrimental F’s are on a transcript, even when not calculated into my GPA. And this would also leave me with very few free retake credits for the rest of my time here.
But the GPA boost would be massive (I’m confident I can get at least B’s over the summer), and I would be able to join this organization much more easily.
tl;dr
Is it best for an engineer to:
A) Fail CS31 and Math 31B to retake them over the summer
B) Cram these last two weeks in hope of receiving a C in these two classes
Thanks for your time.
