engineering major looking to transfer to a uni on the east coast, particularly NC

I live in California and have around 40 units completed at a city college. My GPA is a 3.95, last semester I completed differential equations, a bio course, and a few general requirements. I would like to head in the direction of chemical engineering with a primary goal of entering law school (particularly patent law), although I would like to keep my options open. I have yet to take ochem and a few of the hard sciences and math classes required for a transfer here in CA.

I am looking to move out of state and North Carolina is appealing. UNC chapel hill and duke university are appealing although I am not sure how difficult it is to get in as a transfer student.

High school gpa 3.8 SAT 1455/1600

I would like to head over to a decent community college and would like some advice on where to start, particularly in north carolina, although I am open to suggestions in other states. It all comes down to the uni I will be transferring to and want to find a reputable school with a good engineering program. Sorry to be naive, I am not familiar with schools on the east coast, only Universities of California. I know that in this state we have lock in transfer programs to almost all of the major universities that are not private.

Thanks

Visit the websites of the universities that you are interested in, and search for “articulation agreement”. This should find the information about agreements between those universities and the community colleges in that state. Once you know the details of the agreements (GPA, courses, etc.) you can investigate transferring to that particular CC.

However, you need to remember that you will be paying out-of-state fees to study at any public institution in North Carolina. Be prepared for that. It may be better to stay in California until you finish your college education.
