Assuming you come in with a healthy amount of credits (According to the website, A Levels get double credit?), how difficult would it be to double major in Civil Engineering and Political Science?

From what I can gather, engineering requires about 170 credits? I can't seem to find out how many credits are required for Pol. Sci? How many credits do most students take a year? Would you need to apply to both schools? Or apply to one first and then the other? How many credits contribute to the general requirements? How many social science credits to engineers have to complete?

Sorry, I'm new to this whole, 'credit' system :s

LSA requires 120 credits to graduate, I don’t know what if any double dipping you can do. The poli sci major is basically one third general education, one third distribution (essentially more general ed), and then one third major requirements. You can expect completely massive amounts of reading-- I have 12 books for one class this semester and it is not unusual.

Your first step is to find out whether or not you can dual enroll in the college of engineering and the school of literature, science, and the arts. I don’t know the answer to that.

You can dual enroll in the two, but there are certain requirements:

You must complete 90 credits of LSA coursework (A-levels, AP, and IB do not count as part of this)

You must fulfill the LSA distribution credits (this is one of two sets of requirements that LSA students must fulfill, you do not need to fulfill the other set)

You must also fulfill the requirements for the engineering degree

Engineering only requires 128 credits, I don’t know where you got that 170 number from, but it is incorrect. I do not know how many of those will be required to be Engineering classes for CEE, but a fair bet is about 60-70 if you include Tech Com and 100/101 (and you can look up the exact number). Then you have the additional 90 credits in LSA, you are looking at 150+ credits required to do this.

If you do wish to pursue this, you should apply to the College of Engineering and then after a year talk to an adviser about doing a dual BA & BSE degree.

Engineers do not have to take any social science credits, but must take 10 credits which are either social science or humanities in addition to 6 credits which must be humanities.

A typical semester is 15-16 credits. Classes usually range from 3-4 credits, 5 if it has a lab. A student stays for 8 semesters. Engineers typically take longer than 8.
