Engineering Questions

Does Northeastern 'weed out' kids from engineering? I've heard that engineering majors tend to get weeded out pretty quickly.

What is the rigor of the Northeastern engineering program, and how does it compare to a place like UMASS Amherst or UCONN or UNH? Are the classes impossible or just a lot of work - in terms of projects, labs things like that?

How many students are in the college of engineering?

I am not familiar with the College of Engineering but I can assure you that Northeastern does not try to weed out students. NU is aggressivley working to rise in the USNews rankings. Two of the metrics they use are freshman to sophomore retention rate and percent of students who graduate. If NU weeded out students, those metric and NU’s ranking would fall.

If NU admits you, they feel you are qualified to succeed. They will actively work to retain you.

I would have thought that too - it is in their best interest to want students to succeed, but I hear that all the time - maybe its just the ivies and the dukes and the MIT’s that do that - any other opinions from current engineering students?
