What kind of things would CS grads be working on in the actual job market? I wouldnt want to be doing boring tasks such as backing up databases for companies or managing their systems, I would want to be part of team working on software products that make a difference like the teams behind google glass, or working on operating systems or creating video games, something somewhat tangible with more of a feeling of accomplishment. Are these opportunities hard to come by in CS since its very competitive? Would a SBU grad have these kind of opportunities? Are chances of getting a better job like that higher after attending grad school?

CS grads could do just about anything technical, financial, or creatively possible. From serving as an Algorithm trader at a Bank, to an Engineer at a tech firm, the opportunity are left to you to decide.

QCstudent, It sounds like you are having a great experience in the CS dept. Can you tell us if you are commuting, or if not, what weekend life is like on campus. The whole college experience is something we are looking for, not just a strong CS dept.
