I got a "Dean's Honorary Scholarship." If what you say is true, then for people without financial problems, it might not be that big of a scholarship? :(

omg, are you people for real? If you got a scholarship be happy !!!!! How does it matter if its merit based or academic.. so many people have not got any scholarship so stop bantering about this !!

Ariesdrgn - Perhaps the difference in the wording is just in the types of letters. Isn't yours a likely letter with an admit letter to follow? D's info. came on the financial assistance letter a few days after she recieved her admit. letter. Just a guess.

Thanks Aries... what a relief.

Ariesdrgn - yeah my letter said the exact same thing as yours about the dean's honorary scholarship thing. but i dont think it is based on financial need because i didn't apply for financial aid. but where did you find out that it ranges from 2500 to full tuition?

Has any international called SEAS for his/her decision? It's nervewrecking waiting for the letter.

Nomad, where do you live? I'm guessing you're an international since you don't have an SSN?

I am an international applicant though I live in the US. I already got my mail in the post, dont know about people living outside the country though.. sorry!!

Oh, I see, that's why the mail reached you so early. It seems I'm the only person on CC still waiting for it...

I think the money thing goes like this. I remember there were 30 some odd scholarships that were called Moog Scholarships that gave up to 50% tuition costs.

There are also 4 Langsdorf (i think) scholarships that offer all the tuition costs in the scholarship

I don't know about this year, but last year for the Engineering scholarship this is what happened. They picked 12 students to go to campus for a weekend. Those 12 students were guaranteed 1/2 tuition scholarships. WashU sent a plane ticket and put the kids in a hotel for 1 night, then the dorm (I think that's right). They spent the week-end doing team activities, solving problems, hanging out, I don't know what else. They got home on Sun and I think Mon they called to say whether you won the full tuition scholarship. 4 get the full, but one of those 4 has to be a St. Louis resident (that's the rule). So really 3 other students will get the full tuition and the rest get 1/2. If you 're also NMF you'll get some money from that too.

HTH

well it said up to half. :)

This is good. That means I have at least a 1/2 scholarship.

Seeing as how I was accepted into several ivy leagues, I really think I'll go to WashU because of its money. :)

This trip sounds really fun. I've done lots of team activities and stuff like that. Sounds great.

I just wanna say thanks to Over30 for smoothing out a few creases of doubt (still in the AP engrish mode) on my trip. :)

Where are you all flying out from?

I was told that the Dean's Honorary Scholarship was $6000 (per year)

it said on the letter that it was up to 1/2 tuition

did the letter say that? i don't remember reading that...

i'm assuming its 2500 to full tuition because of this on the washu website

Our five undergraduate schoolsthe College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Architecture, the School of Art, the Olin School of Business, and the School of Engineering & Applied Sciencesponsor scholarships and fellowships for exceptional students. These awards range from annual awards of $2,500 to half-tuition scholarships to full-tuition scholarships ($31,100 in academic year 2005-06) with annual stipends. Each involves expectations that the students selected will participate actively in shaping the academic and social communities of which they become a part.

i think they coulda changed their policy cuz they wrote that they have 32 deans honorary schoalrships from 700+ people.

coptermom--mine said you'll get your scholarship after you receive your official acceptnace, but it informed me of the scholarhip in the likely letter

wait have u guys gotten official letters from wash u already?
