Engineering Students - Scheduling Question

Oh, and it is my understanding that the reason catalogs are like that is because of restrictions from ABET and others about having too many hours in a degree plan. My catalog has 135 hours, while an english major degree plan has 120 hours. That’s a whole extra semester difference. Plus, with that many hours in a degree plan, one usually has to take 15-17 hours semesters to finish in 4 years (unless that person comes in with significant transfer hours).

Another lame example is my catalog requires me to have 8 hours of aerospace technical electives, however each technical elective is 3 hours. So thus, I really have to take 9 hours (3 classes, 3 hours each) to satisfy my technical elective requirement.

You’ll also run into many classes that are listed as “3 hours”, which means you should meet 3 hours a week in class, however you meet for more hours/week than that. Another example of limiting the total amount of hours your degree plan carries.

It really surprises me that advisers are recommending to take this Physics class at community college or in summer school. I took it last semester - yes it was a lot of work but it’s doable.

My advisor told me not to take it at community college. I was going to take it back home until he made a very good point to me: If you are doing well now, why not be focused on trying for a summer internship or taking classes beyond what you major requires to gain additional knowledge that may help towards a minor/double major.
