Engineering summer programs?

Hello, I'm currently a junior in high school and my parents are urging me to do something during the summer so I can get into a really good engineering university!

However, I am not sure what to take. My parents want me to do the Stanford EPGY thing but that is very expensive and lots of people don't think it's worth it.

Can anyone PLEASE recommend me for what I should do during the summer to get into a good engineering school?

For the record I have close to a 4.0 unweighted GPA.. going to be a 4.0 once I retake this one class by the end of Jan.
I also didn't do too good on the PSAT, I got a 182 total, 69 in math. So I can't get into something like MITES probably. I'm taking good AP/honors classes though.

I'm looking for something like Chem/Biochem engineering or maybe computer science, but any engineering will do.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Look into UIdaho JEMS summer program. It’s two weeks studying science and engineering at University of Idaho, for only $550

I think that Garcia is the best program ever for anything engineering. We spend like two weeks of the program just going through everything in all fields of engineering- there is seriously a project for everyone. I would say you have good chances of getting in based on what I know from others. The SAT is a little low, but everything is considered and if you have good letters of rec and ECs you should be fine. It’s so much fun and you meet so many cool people but the research is intense. You may end up spending 24 hours straight in the lab. This program is one of the best, and colleges will weigh it very heavily in their admissions decision. Most of the students who do GARCIA go to ivies or MIT or caltech, and they dominate all competitions. Prices went up this year, but it’s still 8 weeks long and if you look into the Simons program at SBU you might be able to get $1,000 to pay for the research fees and get a mentor from the engineering department. Definitely look into both programs (I vote GARCIA).
Simons- [simons page](Simons Summer Research Program | Stony Brook University)
GARCIA- [SUNY Stony Brook :: Materials Science and Engineering](http://polymer.matscieng.sunysb.edu/srprog.html)

The deadline for the Simons program is already passed(Jan 13). I also believe your high school must nominate you for the program.

It looks like I’ll look into JEMS as well as GARCIA, since those apps are still open.
Thank you guys.

Any more? Do you guys recommend I apply to many?

Just FYI, JEMS prices just went up to $800 this year. I was going to apply, but now I probably won’t, because I’m not really an engineering person (I like math and science though). Also, Idaho isn’t the most exciting place in the United States. It looks like a good program to do for Engineering, so as long as you like it. BUT, I found another Engineering program. University of Maine Consider Engineering Workshop. It’s only 4 days, but it’s completely free. I might apply to that one. I know I’ve found others that I just can’t remember right now, but I’m sure if you do a google search you’ll be able to find some.

Cosmos at ucd, uci, ucsd, and ucsc.
There’s a few engineering options and the program itself is well recognized and interesting. I recommend checking out their website :)
