<p>Does it matter if my response to the UVA prompt for engineers has little to do with engineering itself? The way the question is worded lends itself to other options, I feel. </p>

<p>If the prompt doesn’t have you thinking of something related to engineering and applied sciences, perhaps the engineering school isn’t the UVa school to which you should be applying.</p>
<p>It’s hard to offer a spot in the engineering school to an applicant who doesn’t give any indication of an interest in the subject beyond the check mark on the first page of the supplement.</p>
