Engineering Transfer Wait Times

I will be a Sophomore this fall at UM-Dearborn. After my first year and a summer class, I have a 3.97 gpa. I also have a summer internship, so I am pretty confident I will be accepted to the college of engineering for this winter - after I complete the listed prerequisites this fall. I contacted the coordinator of transfer admissions and programs, and he told me some things that don't seem right.

He said that if I am still finishing prerequisites this fall, I will not receive my decision until the end of December at best. This is for Winter 2009 transfer. I would think this guy knows what he's talking about, but I'm not sure about this. He claims they will need to see my grades for the prereq classes I take this upcoming semester. So does anyone have any experience transferring in the winter and finishing prereqs the preceding fall?

If I don't find out until the end of December, how will I deal with scheduling classes or finding housing? That means I will also have to schedule classes at Dearborn in case I don't get in. Other problems will be the loans I have to get. It doesn't seem to me like anyone will be in Ann Arbor at the end of December. With classes starting a few days later, it seems impossible that I could find out this late. He also said that if my prereqs were done, I would hear within a few weeks of applying. Of course, I could just wait and see what happens, but I would really like to hear opinions on this.

Thanks for any insight!

Hmmm...I think my reading of your post was a bit spotty, but anyways, I transfered from LSA to Engineering after this past fall. I didn't get my official admission until the end of December, maybe even at the beginning of January. Anyways, it was not a big deal for me, because I was as confident as could be about getting in and had scheduled my classes as such. Transferring from another school, I don't really understand how you could do anything like that that. If things are unclear, get back in touch with the Engineering admissions office. At times they are not very helpful, but eventually they should get things figured out for you.

I definitely don't understand how I could find out that late and then transfer. I guess I will have to ask more people in the admissions office more questions.
