english 124/125 reviews/suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a good english 124/125 course they've had this semester or in the past semesters? Any suggestions, class reviews? Thanks!

I’m in 125 this semester and my class is pretty worthless, i haven’t really learned anything at all. Basically we’ve had 3 papers so far plus like 5 responses to articles we’ve read by random authors that are like 10-20 pages at the most. The class is really easy, but then again I have a friend in another section of 125 and he thinks its the hardest thing ever (granted, he’s literally a dumbass, like I question how he got into this school lol).

From what I’ve heard, 124 is more reading books and reading them analytically then writing about literary elements whereas in my 125 class we’re mostly doing short readings in which we right a short summary/synthesizing essay. Also, our ‘big’ essays (3, 5, 7 and 9 page essays for essay 1,2,3,4 respectively) are more creative. Our first essay was writing about an experience we had while writing, our second was choosing a word and writing about its etymological history, and our 3rd one is about our interpretation of this article we read.

I don’t know if the first year seminars satisfy the FYWR, but if they do, I would recommend taking one of those instead imo.

I’m in 125 right now and I definitely think I made the right choice. I did choose it because it’s a lot less reading than 124 and I barely have time to read as it is. I unknowingly registered for a themed course - the philosophy of “things.” It’s not a hard class, but there is a good amount of work. The actual class is all discussion, but I’ve had three papers so far (one being an analysis of an advertisement, 5 pages; a poem + reflection/analysis of it and its connection to the imagist movement, 7 pages; an ethnography on a “thing,” 5 pages) and many pointless readings, two including full books that I didn’t actually read all the way through and no one knew any different. The final is a 15-page research paper. I suppose it all depends on how much you’re willing to read and the topics/themes available. I know last semester, my gsi taught a 125 on Vampire Fiction.

I’m in English 125 right now and I have found it to be very straightforward. It helps I have an excellent professor, but the class is very fun. We write three papers; the first is a five page travel narrative, the second is a 6 page movie review, and the last is a 7-8 page inquiry paper. The reading is also pretty minimal.

Hey adam do you know if ur professor teaches winter term too? Those 3 papers seem pretty interesting and easy (reletively) to write
