English AP Credit

If I received a 4 on both the AP Language / AP Literature exams, am I exempt from taking all English courses or only writing I? Also, does this exempt me from Writing II or is that a separate requirement? The apcredit site says Eng 3 - what does that mean? Thanks.

There are two writing reqs, Writing 1 and writing 2.

Writing 1, if you don't pass out of it, is satisfied by a class called Eng Comp 3. This requirement can be passed out of with AP (not sure the exact reqs--probably a 4 or 5 on either of the AP English exams).

Writing 2 is satisfied by taking 2 different writing 2 approved courses, OR a writing 2 seminar, OR a GE cluster. However you CANNOT pass out of the writing 2 requirement coming into UCLA, no matter what your AP Scores are.

In short: your AP scores give you credit for Eng Comp 3 (AKA Writing1), but you still have to satisfy the writing 2 requirements.

then what's the uc entry level writing requirement for? i thought that was writing 1... =/ this is confusing.

Brandnew2, are you saying that if i take Comp Lit 2AW AND 2BW, I would be satisfying the writing two requirement?

yup, but i would recommend against the com lit classes. much more work than it's worth, there are easier writing 2 classes out there. i took comp lit 2dw and it was probably my least favorite class out of any that i've taken here. that's just personal opinion though.

what would you suggest to fulfil our writing requirement? are seminars easy or easier than the writing courses?

ok.... so if I got a 3 on the AP Comp&Lit exam, that's basically useless, and I'll have to take Eng comp 3?

what are some easy writing 2 classes?

sofa: you get credit for it...just not for writing 1
