How is Washu's English program? Feel free to share personal experiences.

You may have read that WashU was just ranked in the top ten in a number of disciplines--in English, we were ranked fourth... I think... Regardless, the department has been, in my experience, full of teachers that are not only academically some of the top experts in their respective fields but are also passionate about the texts and devoted to their students (undergrads clearly included). I've doubted my decision to pursue an English major for practical reasons, but I love the department so much.

In high school I wrote pretty well but always thought writing was a chore.
Coming to WashU however, I took Writing I (required for many freshman) and I have to say the class was amazing. My teacher was really inspiring...it wasn't a typical writing class where you just punch out essays. He interacted with his class with humor and great writing tips. So even though I don't plan to major in English, I'm thinking of taking more writing classes.

Yeah, like you avocado, I'm also thinking of taking more writing classes and possibly minoring in writing.

From what I understand, WashU has a very solid English department at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. There is also a highly reputed top 10 creative writing program here.
