English - Impacted at UCLA?

I was looking at the UCLA website and it says English is one of the impacted majors. Is it really that hard to get into?

I will probably have a 3.3-3.5 GPA by the end of Fall. (Still waiting on a summer grade so I can't gauge it any closer).
Prereqs and IGETC will be done by the end of Fall.
Working on TAP.
Extracurrics: Secretary of my Circle K, 330+ hours community service, won a ton of awards for my club, Internship at CAIR, T.A. for English class.
Other: I have a heart condition which has played a role in my GPA -- missing days because of not feeling well, doctors appointments, etc.

It states that on average a 3.6 GPA gets in but do I stand a chance?

I should say so. But it’s super important that you mention your heart condition in the extra comments section. No sob story. Just be as matter-of-factly as possible and you should stand a chance.

Fulfilling the pre-reqs and completing the IGETC is the most important thing, in my opinion (as long as your GPA is reasonably high – 3.5 is good, but I’m not sure about 3.3). I know a girl with a very high GPA who got rejected, probably because she hadn’t fulfilled the pre-reqs. I had a lower GPA, no TAP, lame/non-existent extra-curricular activities, and I got in.

I agree that it’s important to mention your heart condition somewhere in your application. I had a health issue that turned my pre-community college academic record into a big mess, and I thought I’d be quickly rejected because of it. I’m pretty sure my personal statement was what saved me. You’re more than just your GPA, and I think UCLA understands this. If you incorporate your heart condition into your application in a way that showcases your strengths, it can work in your favor.

IGETC doesn’t play much of a role in the decision, but it can’t hurt.
