as an English major, with a 3.6 GPA and TAP?

if IGETC and major pre-reqs are done by spring, decent essay would make you a shoe-in

thats my prob…there are lots of pre-reqs, but my counselor said 2 of the foreign language pre-reqs and 2 of the english lit courses required can be completed at UCLA…I’m wondering if any english majors can give any information on this…

Use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org)

A lot of pre reqs? English has the least amount of pre reqs. All you need is eng 100 (everyone needs this for igetc) , intro to lit, lit to 1800, lit from 1800 and foreign language that’s it. I would suggest doing at least one foreign language course and all three lit classes beyond 100. On the website it says most admitted students have all or most pre reqs done before transfer. Your counselor is right though you can take them at UCLA but not every single one. Also, for foreign language requirement you can take literature in translation courses in combo with foreign language. For example world lit, mythology, shakespeare etc…You do have a good GPA and tap helps alot, but try to do some pre reqs and you should get in easy. Don’t slack off on the essay either…and have decent ec’s. Remember English is heavily impacted so you have to do more to be competative with peoe who have 4.0’s

50% of applicants got admitted with an avg gpa of 3.64…I don’t think I’d consider that “heavily impacted”.

You will get in, don’t worry about it. Just do the pre-reqs.

I meant for my school in particular, assist lists: eng 1, eng 2, eng 5, eng 6 plus 2 semester of a foreign language and two lit in translation courses… but my counselor said they only care about english 1,2,5,6. The two foreign language and two lit in translation classes can be done at UCLA…is this true?

I wouldn’t say 50% got in, but the website says its impacted and I believe it so…I would still take at least one foreign language course and one lit in translation to be sure.
