English major requirements for graduation?!

Hi everyone - I have a question as someone who may be transferring to UCLA this fall as an English major.

According to the UCLA catalog, a transfer student must complete 10 upper-division English courses as an undergraduate (and have listed the course options on the website). Say I take 3 classes per quarter for 3 quarters and throw in a class during the summer. Assuming everything goes to plan, that would mean I’ll have completed all 10 required classes. And that means…? I can graduate? I feel like I’m missing some extremely important information here. It seems a bit too fast to be able to graduate in a year.

Part of my confusion regarding this subject comes from the fact that Berkeley also requires 10 English courses (should actually be 8, but I’m missing 2) after my transfer. Realistically, I’d probably only be taking 3 or 4 classes per semester in order to work part time. In this case, it would take me a little over a year to finish the requirements. Does that sound about right, or am I completely confused?

In short, I’d rather choose UCLA if it would mean graduating sooner. Thank you so so much in advance!

In addition to your major requirements, you also have to complete the College requirements. Most of these are met by IGETC but you also have to have a certain minimum number of units and there is a maximum on how many they will count from community college. So basically, you will need to take more than just your major. Some people do a minor or a double major, some people take career preparation classes, some just take extra electives.
