English/Reading ACT advices

Just got my November ACT back and it was
34 science , 36 math, 20 English, 23 reading... Any advice to boost my verbal skills?

Read books? More practice tests? Study the things you are having trouble with.

Learn your grammar rules. Once you those under your belt, your score will increase.

Reading is all about reading as fast as you can while still comprehending what you’re looking at. I always skip looking at the questions and go right into reading the passage because most likely you won’t even remember what you’re looking for anyways. If you feel yourself slowing down on the reading, use your finger and move it along the lines like little kids do. It really works because then you will read however fast your finger is moving! The most important thing is that you absolutely cannot allow yourself to zone out or skim when reading because if you understand it all the first time, you won’t have to go back and check the passage for answers when you start doing the questions.

For English, like others said, it’s all about grammar. Learning comma rules and subject verb agreement is particularly useful because those tend to show up a lot.

You just have to really have a strong grip on the English language. I agree that you just need to try and master grammar, and as for reading, learn how to sift through texts quickly and which types of questions they tend to ask. That’ll make it a bit easier and prepared for the short amount of time.

Any specific books?

Make sure you have the Real ACT Prep Guide (“the red book”). It is probably the best resource to start with for practice tests.
