I know that there is an english requirement, but is there a specific course that you have to take? If so what course is that and how hard is it? Do a lot of people get As? Is it hard to get an A?

The main english class everybody takes is English 125. I believe you can also take a first-year history seminar to meet the first writing requirement, and Honors students take Great Books. You also have an "Upper Level Writing Requirement" (often refered to as ULWR), which a wide number of course fill, and you're supposed to take in something related to your concentration.

At least for English 125 and Great Books, I've seen that grades are highly dependent on your GSI. Most Great Books GSI's would curve scores up so people did decent (minimum B+ if you at least try, so the GPA of people doing honors for things like the sciences doesn't get raped by an advanced english course), but are some GSI's that go on a relatively straight scale. English 125, I've only heard from two of my friends, both of whom got 5's on AP English Composition and did our schools difficult research writing class. One of them didn't seem to have that many problems with the class, got A's on most of his papers. The other one had a really bad GSI who kept giving her C's, and she had to go to Sweetland Writing Center so they could verify that she was actually writing at the level of an upperclassman English major.

Personally, had I not been in Honors, I would've opted to do a first-year history seminar because I would find it easier to write about history as opposed to the stupid stuff I always had to write about in English, but it's all whatever you think you'll do better in.

I didn't have a GSI when I took English 125 last fall. I got someone who worked in the Sweetland Writing Center and already had a Ph.D. (Yes, I took AP English Language and Composition in high school. However, I didn't take the exam because I didn't think I had enough time to adequately prepare for it.) She was a difficult grader (and a person who was in my class stated close to the end of the course that from talking to others, she thought that we had it more difficult than most), but I think that was a good thing in the end because I learned a few things from the class.

I guess it depends on who your instructor is.

yea depends on the instructor...I actually thought mine was a really tough grader, but then once I got my grade at the end of the semester I realized wow, she was really nice and some idiots actually got a higher grade than me...if only i worked a little harder then lol

In terms of workload...I only had 4 4-6 pg papers throughout the semester and everything else was like easy hw u can get done in like 10 min

Yeah, I think there's a minimum requirement of 15 or 16 pages of actual essay writing. Most GSIs split it into four 4 page papers. My Great Books GSI made it a lot of smaller ones, which I think worked better since we were writing about books, and it can be hard to stretch some concepts into multiple pages.
