I believe I read on CC that Engineering 110 does not have a final exam. Can anyone confirm this? We are looking at planning a family vacation after the fall 2011 exams and this information makes a huge difference in his exam schedule. Thanks, engineers, for your help!

Attend orientation and figure out.
I don’t remember what they said, but I don’t think there’s finals… Just homework and tests every week.

Unless it changed since I took it there are no tests. It’s just weekly homework.

@GPeace Tea - He had orientation a couple of weeks ago. I will see if he can contact his advisor or someone in the engineering dept to be sure, but thanks for your help.

Whats Engr 110? Is that like a class to help u figure out what Engr u want to do?

Yeah, I think every week they show different types of engineering.
I’m enrolled in it.
Unfortunately, I heard from a few people that it’s really pointless, but they might’ve already been set on what they wanted to do.

Don’t take that class, I had friends who were in it and said nothing but bad things about it. The college of engineering hosts a “major fair” in the winter that will let you know everything you need to know about each type of engineering. You can also go to each department and departmental website to learn more.

I agree, sounds like a waste

Damn, sucks for me…

does anyone else have experience with the class? I want to take it my first semester because I am clueless about engineering but you all are saying its a waste

No final exam. Do the weekly homework the the two credit course will gently cushion your GPA. The point of it is for you to determine what engineering major is right for you. There’s really no material with which they could give you a final anyway. even if they wanted to

I think your grade is based on homework PLUS your attendance (no final exam)-- so don’t miss any classes.

can anyone answer my question a few posts above?

I don’t have first-hand knowledge, but at the engineering portion of orientation our student advisor really recommended the class, even for students who thought they knew which type of engineering they wanted to study. She said it was a worth-while class in that it opens your eyes to what’s out there. My son is taking it first semester, and it fit nicely into his schedule, puting him at 15 credits, which seems good for first semester engineering.

Like almost anything, if you ask a wide group of people you’re likely to get a wide array of opinions.
