Enjoyment vs Fun

I think it’s an individual feeling.

If I go out to a restaurant and have a good meal, I ENJOY that.

If I go out to a restaurant and have a good meal, but hang out for a long time, laugh a lot or there is some interesting twist to a restaurant than that would be FUN.

Fun is probably more out of the ordinary.

Thinking on this topic makes me realize how difficult it must be learning a new language, with so many synonyms and near-synonyms.

Reading prior post, I wonder if “Fun” for me is an enjoyable activity that involves laughter.

To me Fun is a subset of Enjoyable. All Fun things are Enjoyable but not all Enjoyable things are Fun.

Our power was out for 24hrs due to the remnants of Hurricane Ian and now it’s back on and I am very much enjoying having lights, and heat, and the fridge running, and the TV and internet working but I wouldn’t say it’s fun. Quite enjoyable to lie on my sofa and look at CC in a warm, safe, lighted house though.

We went apple picking today and that’s definitely fun. The apple donuts were quite enjoyable.

Been thinking about this all weekend. Did a deep clean of the bathroom, which was neither enjoyable nor fun (but definitely necessary), but we did find a way to continue our summer tradition of having a happy hour cocktail on the patio while sitting inside, which was definitely enjoyable (and maybe low key fun).

Is “fun” the activity you mention when someone asks you how your weekend was, and enjoyable the activity you actually, well, enjoyed?

I am just going crazy trying to figure this out :joy:. Did you have the cocktail outdoors on the patio or indoors? Or do you have a porch overhang or some set-up that allows you to feel like you are both indoors and outdoor simultaneously? Other explanation?

@EmptyNestSoon2 I thought I was being confusing! We’ve been doing this outdoors at the picnic table all summer but today was 50 degrees and windy, so not inviting. We found a way to set up indoors in a spot where we don’t usually sit (not kitchen or dining room) so it still felt special and we still were able to play music. We’ve been buying premixed drinks all summer but I think our winter project will be to use up the very aged contents of the liquor cabinet and learning to make cocktails from whatever we have on store. Has the dual benefit of providing immediate fun/enjoyment and using up something that is taking up space!
