Enrolling in Math10A

The website won't let me enroll in math10a because it says I haven't satisfied the prerequisites. But I passed the AP calculus AB test with a 3! What do I do now?

Did collegeboard send your scores? If not, that’s probably why. You probably won’t be able to enroll in math10a until UCSD has record of your AP scores.

Yeah it shows on my checklist that UCSD already received my AP scores … So i dont know why it won’t let me enroll in that class ]:

Contact the department.

I have the same exact problem as you too and UCSD received my AP scores as well.

Score of 3 on AB exam = exempts Math. 10A; I got a 3 and took 10B

^Good point. You want to be taking 10B. I completely overlooked that.

I would take Math10B, but I’m planning to go on to pharmacy school and they don’t accept 3’s :T

^Oh, gotcha.

@rawrrawr

Then shouldn’t you be taking 20A if you’re trying to get into a pharmacy school?

I think most pharmacy schools also accept the MATH10 series, I’m not that good at math either.

Here’s what UCSD says about a 3 on the AP AB exam:
Credit for Math 10A
(Enroll in Math 10B-4 units or Math 20A-2 units)
You cannot receive credit for taking Math 10A
(so…you really can’t take 10A, even if you want to.)

welll… i know its not math, but i got exempt from Chem 6A through my AP Chem test, but I need a whole year for med school. I registered for Chem 6A without a problem…

@rawrrawr
if your major is a science, then you should be taking the 20 series regardless of what the pharm schools say. since you are not taking the 20 series, then im assuming your major is something like english lit, psych, bio, or polisci?

@diablonecros: Yeah my major is human biology

By the way, I solved the problem. If anyone else had the same problem as me, I just emailed the math department and they told me that I’m ONLY allowed to enroll in Math10B or Math20A unless I have a good reason to enroll into Math10A. So I just emailed them my reason, and I’m waiting for the response. Thanks everyone for the help.

@nan2

Well, yes they can take Math 10A. They just won’t be getting any units for it.
