Enrollment Deposit Request

<p>Hello,</p>

<p>I'm new to this site and I'm hoping to get some advise.
My daughter was accepted at the University of Michigan and, in order to accept, I need to send in a $200 Enrollment Deposit Request. It's not due until May 1, 2012. Is there any advantage to turning it in early (like housing choices)? Should I wait until closer to the due date to tuen it in?</p>

<p>You need to check their housing page and see if the housing deadline is sooner than the deadline for the enrollment deposit. Or if housing is based on first come first serve. That would be the only reason I can think of to submit early. if that is where your student is going, I would send it in.</p>

<p>If you are not 100% sure that’s where your S or D will attend, hold off until the spring. As stated above, check to see if that deposit has any bearing or affect on housing choices. Some schools have a separate housing deposit which may be sent in separately in some cases.</p>

<p>Check on the housing deadline and how they handle assignments. Then do what is needed for that to ensure the best dorm choice if she goes there. I know the U of Wisconsin and its Residence Halls have separate deadlines and deposits, both refundable if a student notifies each (separately) by May 1st and they do a housing choice lottery in May to assign first, second et al dorm choices. Minnesota does a first come, first served dorm choice method. You also need to find out about deposit refund conditions, if any for the university and dorms. UW is a public school with public dorms but the two are separate- one doesn’t know what the other does. This may or may not be the case at Michigan. Three upper Midwest flagship schools with different ways of handling things.</p>

<p>It sounds like the university holds her place until the spring deadline. Pay the deposit anytime if that is where she intends to go. It is easier to not pay than to request a refund (if one is given) if she chooses elsewhere. Be sure her housing isn’t dependent on her paying the U deposit. Best way to get the correct answer to these questions is to email Michigan housing and admissions directly.</p>

<p>It appears that Michigan assigns housing on a first-come-first-serve basis and that housing applications are available only to those who have already submitted their enrollment deposit. Last year it would have been in your Ds best interest to submit the deposit by early March. <p>I read that page and I am still confused. The OP may still want to ask Michigan the questions. btw- UW didn’t care about the age of freshmen, interesting difference.</p>
