Entering Freshmen Class Profile

University of Michigan Parents Facebook page listed the Fall 2014's Freshman Class's statistics. Hopefully the above link will work.

Curious to know if these are the statistics for the “Admitted Students”, or for the “Entering Freshman”. Would anybody know? I find the picture to be unclear regarding this.

I wondered the same thing. It would be odd/less meaningful if it were all admitted students. One hint is that there is a footnote that says “as of June 2014” and presumably they are done admitting students whereas some students who have given enrollment deposits may not enroll and become part of the “entering class.”

I was thinking the same way, but realized that maybe the “as of June 2014” meant that some students may be admitted off the wait-list. However, I don’t know if the wait-list has is still open, so I don’t know how valid that realization is.

I believe they announced a while back that wait list was closed. But I don’t have a link.

Another clue: Someone asked on the admissions page when the class profile will be ready. The answer (below) suggests that it is in fact the profile for the incoming class (since picture was just put on the website and Facebook).

We’re still working through the waitlist, so once the total class is set then we’ll be able to start crunching the numbers. They’re usually available mid-summer (we’re hoping mid-July). As soon as we get them we’ll whip up a snazzy infographic and publish them here (and probably on our facebook and twitter as well) for all to behold and enjoy your glorious stats.

Michigan over enrolled by a large number. They operated on the assumption that the yield would be 38%, but it turned out to be 42%. In other words, they admitted hundreds more than they should have. There will be very few (is any at all) coming off the waitlist. Most years, Michigan has only admitted 0-50 out of thousands of wait listed students. One thing is certain, applicants from Wyoming will have the upper hand next year!

The stats provided in the OP are those of the admitted freshmen class, not of the enrolling freshmen class. Enrollment figures will be released later, perhaps in early January, 2015. But from the admitted class figures, it is safe to say that this was another very accomplished class.

Thanks for clarifying that. It’ll be interesting to see how that unexpected change in yield will affect the upcoming years’ acceptances.

I don’t think it will impact next year’s acceptances. The over enrollment was not that drastic.

They have admitted that there are way too many freshmen this year and they are short of around 300 dorm space for freshmen. They are now offering free upgrade to returned students that have a housing contract for freshmen eligible dorm to apartments like Courtyard. It may slightly affect next year’s admission rate as they may consider a higher estimated yield rate.

It said clearly admitted student profile. I think the enrolled freshmen profile would not be available until early Fall. The admitted student mid 50 last year was 29-33 in ACT and 2030-2250 in SAT.
