err classes start when?

when is the first day of class?

i think the 25th

http://www.cornell.edu/academics/calendar/

Instruction Begins Thursday August 25

yeah but from there we go right into "welcome weekend," so even though classes start then, do we actually have work for those first two days? Will the classes even meet? So do they really start the 25, or do they effectively start the 29?

I remember reading somewhere that the Writing Seminars start the next week, but I think everything else will meet on R or F (if the class is scheduled then)

And you guys know that you get to class on labor day...

Classes do meet on Thursday August 25. If you miss those first two days of classes you will miss too much!

Classes will absolutely meet on the first two days of the semester. Typically, most of the Thursday/Friday sections and labs that normally meet on those days will not meet. You should still check though.

Veteran's Day is another day you will have to attend class on.

OMG, I read my post again and I realize that it doesn't make any sense! What I meant to say was...

And you guys know that you are required to go to class on Labor Day.

s'ok bro, we figured it out, even though your post didn't make sense, that was the only sensible interpretation :D. yeah and presidents day, it seems like we have class then too.

ok, well, 2 days of class and a weekend, there can't be that much taught in the first 2 days to merit some huge assignment to hang over that first weekend. I think. Unless it's a writing class.

crap, i'm rationalizing work shirkage and school hasn't even started.

I think it is good we get those 2 days and then the weekend. This way we have the whole weekend to get all of our books ready for when classes really start.

Also, am I correct that we find out what books we need on our first class? or do we find them out when we sign up for our classes? Thanks.

I found my answer on the classof2009 website in the Q&A: you can find out before.

I don't think the writing seminar classes give that much hw for the first day of class. The professors of big science lectures, however, assign readings that will be discussed on the first day.
