Maybe I should have clarified. He’s class of 08’, like me. So his 1300 was on the 2400 scale lol. Maybe he got a little higher than that, like a 1400 or something but that’s still ridiculously bad.

ArcadeFire,

I was told by admissions officers at Cal that they expect to hear the reason why you are in need of transfer from UC to UC in the personal statement. The things they asked alone will not provide them with a vivid picture of who you are. This is also the reason why you should mention first generation college status, etc in the prompts even though they don’t explicitly ask for it. Alternatively, the third (optional) statement was recommended as a place in which to do this in the case that it’s too unfitting to mention your reasons for applying away from your current UC in the other two prompts.

What Mikei is saying is true. UCB does want you to explain why you want to transfer in your essay. Although it should only be a part of your essay and not the whole thing. They wont get a picture of who you are if you just tell them why you want to leave your current UC. And secondly, I wanted to let people know that for the other UC schools, Im almost 100% certain that you do not need to explain why you want to transfer, this includes UCLA. For some reason, Berkeley wants a little more information from transfer students coming from a UC or other four-year college.

Well none of the other colleges asked for it, and to be honest, I’m shooting for UCLA. It would be a nice surprise to get into Berkeley, though if I get into both, I’ll more than likely choose UCLA. UCLA makes no mention of addressing reasons for transfer.

The only UC that even suggests that the applicant provides a reason for transfer is UCB. They definitely do not say it is a requirement to gain admittance. I think what they really mean is that they want to know if you have a really legit reason, like your dying Mom who needs someone to take care of her in the Berkeley area.

I have my reasons for transferring but like Arcade, I left them out. We’ll find out how important the reason is in four months or so.

Isn’t this so exciting?! Man my finals next week feel more important than ever, haha.
