Essay for Rice

Hey does anyone know what Rice's application essay topic(s) will be?

Rice will only be using the commonapp this year. I was on campus for an interview a few weeks back and the admissions counselor told me this.

Rice's 08 supplement has this essay: "The quality of Rice's academic life and Residential College System is heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice? "

Yikes! What if you don't have any "unique life experiences" or "cultural traditions"?

haha i know i'm feeling the same way.....i come from a typical middle class family, i've lived in the states all my life, i'm jewish but then i don't think that is really so different since i know a lot of jews who will be applying there.....i can't think of anything unique :(

Just focus on the "perspective" that you can add to the community. My son is not only white, middle class, and from Houston (also Jewish but he didn't mention that) -- so no uniqueness there. In his essay last year he focused on his different way of approaching problems and some of his unique interests. That approach worked for him.

Focus on "who am I?" - EVERYONE has a unique perspective. :)
