Essay Help

I was just looking over the essay for Princeton and it asks you to write about a quote. "Using the quotation below as a jumping off point, tell us about an event or experience that helped you define one of your values or changed how you approach the world."

Thinking about what to write I began to wonder if I should put the quote in my paper or assume that they know the quote because I checked it? Maybe a dumb question but any help will be appreciated.

I was wondering whether the Princeton essay was out. I was looking at the commonapp and the supplement is not available yet. Is there a different portion on the common app where you would write the essay?

my assumption is that they know what the quote is, although it really cannot hurt to either put it first or interject it into your paper

if you look on the princeton admission page they have a link, under Princeton's Paper Application, that you can click to view the printable version of the princeton app. but ill post the link

I don't think you have to mention the whole quote; they're both long. You could either (1) specify on your essay that you're doing number 2 or number 3, or (2) Reference one of the quotes in your essay. For example, "Woodrow Wilson's quote is interesting, because..." or (3) just ignore the quote in your essay because it's only supposed to be used as a jumping off point, so it should be obvious to the reader which quote you're using, even without mentioning it.

Don't bother specifically mentioning it in your essay. They'll be able to figure it out well enough- they're not going to reject you because they couldn't perfectly figure out which topic you were responding to.

If you're still concerned, though, just write the quote at the top of your essay, skip a line, then write the rest of your essay. That's what I did for the "pick your own quote" one.

thanks again to everyone
