Essay idea any good?

I'm applying to maryland and can't deside between two essay topics:
one is "how have your life experiences and background shaped you into an individual who will enrich our community", this would be the safest because I would probably just write about how i'm Cuban,
or; "if you could meet with any figure in time, who would it be and why, describe your conversation, how has this person impacted you and your values"
here, i was thinking about starting off my saying; i'd want to meet "randomn catchy name" and then say, he doesn't exist. and then explain how i'd want to meet just an average person, and hear ther individual and unique story; like an infantrymen in WWII or a peasant during King Henry's rein... to get the perspective from a normal perosn, who's story wouldn't be skewed by history..
this one seems a little risky though, but i could write more... help!

I don't see anything risky but that, but I see creativity written all over it. GO WITH IT!

thanks, i was just wondering if it would really answer the question- how have they impacted my values?

Well, you could write about how a conversation with any of the fictional people WOULD impact your values. How does a typically "normal" person influence you? I think it's okay to give yourself a little creative room here. You're generally answering the question, and your creative idea will cover anything you didn't exactly answer.
