Essay Ideas

So I have two potential essay ideas for the common app essay, but I can't really decide which is better. They are somewhat similar.

I am naturally a very quiet person, who likes to have some time to herself. I would talk about what activities resulted from being quiet, namely a strong passion in reading and writing (and maybe learning, but I can't tell if that is too cheesy), and I would try to make it somewhat anecdotal.

This one would focus solely on writing, because it is my absolute passion. I write fanfiction, and I figured that was something a little different that I could talk about, and maybe about the fact that I have been attempting to write a novel for as long as I can remember.

What do you think?

Hm, writing about writing. And your above post was writing about writing about writing.

I can’t really advise you on what to write, but when I think “college admissions officer” I don’t think “looks favorably on fanfiction” but I suppose that depends on how you handle the topic (I read something a science fiction author wrote about growing up poor and not being able to afford all the books in a series, so as a kid he found an old type writer and wrote a bunch of sequels to his favorite books).

But if something is your “absolute passion”, then I think that’s a good thing.

Ya I’m not really sure how I feel about the topics anymore. They’re the most interesting thing about me (in terms of how much time I devote and how much I like it), at least in my opinion.

I work at a movie theater, so I suppose I could talk about that. I’m not really sure…

But thanks for replying!

If I were you, I’d pick the 2nd topic. I know that I’d enjoy reading about a fanfiction writer more than someone who works at a movie theater…
