Essay inaccuracy

Hey, I wrote what I consider to be a great and original essay on my life and the small events that helped shape me. It may seem like a not so great essay, but I have only heard good things from people who read it. I don't wanna post it here because I know a lot of idiots here may plagiarize.
But my question is this- Is there a limit to how long these essays should be? I understand that the counselors may have up to 35,000 essays to read. However, the CommonApp says a MINIMUM of 250 words, but no maximum. NYU accepts the commonapp, but their specific app requires a maximum of 500 words with no minimum. I don't think they organized this very well, considering the fact that my essay is about 1,000 words (a page and a half single-spaced) I contacted tech support for commonapp and they said the length of my essay should be fine. I also contacted an NYU admissions counselor and she said if it is a page and a half long single-spaced, than that is fine as well. What do you think? Do you think they might just skim through it and only read the conclusion? I figure that's what they would do anyway.
