Rocket Review advises people to have areas to derive examples from ready beforehand. For example, if you enjoy the books The Great Gatsby and 1984, and are interested by the Civil War, then those will be the "example areas" where you will take examples from.

In essence, you'll be using examples from predetermined sources you are well versed in.

That's precisely what Kaplan 2400 told me to do. So what types of examples should I have ready beforehand? And I will read those books pretty soon; what about The Grapes of Wrath? Is that any good for the examples (just read it like two weeks ago).

Classics are probably the best source (so yes, The Grapes of Wrath would be fine). The people grading your essay are most likely English teachers; using an "advanced" book as a source, and using it correctly, will show that you've learned something good.

Hey I am struggling with the same thing. Even though I read about 30 classic books this summer but I don't appear to remember any of them!

I think listing them is a great way to get started.

But I wonder if there is a list out there that already listed some good examples? Thanks

Yeah, kidwithshirt. I'm hoping there's a list like that. Does anyone know about it?
